God’s Elect March Forth to Battle

Updated: 5 days ago

Tune: FORTUNATUS NEW (Sing My Tongue the Glorious Battle)

1 God’s elect march forth to battle,

Heed the calling from on high.

Dip Thine finger into water,

Cross Thyself this blesséd sign,

Sign recalling when He called you,

“At that font I made ye Mine”

2 March against the hordes of devils,

By the Father and the Word,

And the Spirit testifying,

Put those demons to the sword.

O Crusader for the Gospel,

Keep Thine eyes upon the Lord.

3 In the height of raging conflict,

Doubt its way will burrow through.

Wretched monster, spawn of Satan,

It will work to sully you.

Take your shield from God most faithful,

Pray to Christ, Thy faith renew.

4 Stripped of plate by pagan forces,

Still equipt with God’s Own Word.

They shall work that you deny Him,

Yet ye Christian stay unheard.

To Thy throat a blade of iron,

“Jesus Christ is God and Lord.”

5 God’s elect march forth to battle,

Heed that calling from on high.

Dip into thy blood, thy finger,

Cross Thyself one final time,

As ye hear thy Father calling,

“Come unto My light sublime”
